Breast Reduction
Oversized, heavy breasts can be extremely uncomfortable and even painful at times. They may make it difficult to move around, exercise and wear certain types of clothing. They can also take a toll on self-esteem and confidence. Dr. Adrian Sjarif offers breast reduction in Sydney and Wollongong to resize heavy, pendulous breasts for improved personal comfort and better confidence.
Could I Benefit from Breast Reduction?
You may benefit from breast reduction if oversized breasts cause you to experience any of the following:
- Back, shoulder or neck pain
- Posture problems
- Difficulty breathing
- Grooves on your shoulders from your bra straps digging into the skin
- Chafing, rashes or infections under your breasts
- Difficulty staying active and exercising
Social anxiety or low self-esteem
Breast reduction will resize your breasts so they are in better proportion with your body frame. After breast reduction, your breasts will not only look more balanced, but also feel lighter and allow you to live the active, healthy lifestyle you want.
Breast Reduction Surgical Details
Your breast reduction will be performed in a hospital or accredited day surgery facility. You will be given anesthesia to sleep comfortably through surgery.
Dr. Sjarif will begin by making the incisions; most of the time, the incision pattern extends around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease and horizontally along the crease, but your incision pattern will vary depending on the size of your breasts and the extent of correction needed.
Through the incisions, Dr. Sjarif will remove excess breast tissue, fat and skin. He may relocate the nipple-areolar complex higher on the breast mound, and can reduce its size if requested. Breast lift surgery techniques may be used to elevate the breasts higher on the chest.
When Dr. Sjarif is finished making the surgical modifications, he will close the incisions with dissolving sutures. A compression bra will be placed over your breasts and should be worn for several weeks to reduce swelling and prevent other complications.
You should notice the change in breast size almost immediately after surgery, although your breasts will be swollen and bruised. The bruising should disappear within a few days but the swelling can take longer to resolve. The scars from the surgical incisions should fade considerably in the months following surgery, but may not completely disappear.
